Editorial policy

What we will and will not claim, where our sources come from, how we correct mistakes, and how often pages get reviewed.

Who writes this site

Every page is written by Scooter M., an enthusiast rather than a credentialed expert. That framing is deliberate and it is accurate: no one here holds a sommelier, cicerone, distilling or bartending qualification, and we do not imply otherwise anywhere on the site. Claims we will never make

These are absolute. Each one is either untrue, unverifiable, or both.

  • That we tested a product. We have not tested, tasted, chilled, timed or measured anything on this site. There is no lab.
  • Star ratings or review counts. We have no review corpus of our own and we do not borrow one and present it as a verdict.
  • Credentials, tenure or expertise we do not hold. No “years of experience”, no “expert panel”, no “medically reviewed by”.
  • Awards, best-seller status or media mentions we do not have.
  • Urgency. No countdowns, no “selling fast”, no manufactured scarcity.
  • A price we have not verified. Prices render from a live layer or the page says check price. There is no third state.

Sourcing standards

  1. We name the source and link it. Never “experts say” or “studies show” with nothing behind it.
  2. We never cite a seller for a claim about whether their own product works. One of the biggest articles in this category sources its central whiskey-stone cooling figure from a barware company. Where the only published figure for a performance claim comes from the vendor, we say so in the sentence rather than passing it along.
  3. We prefer sources in this order: peer-reviewed or academic work; named subject-matter experts at named institutions; primary manufacturer documentation; established trade press; everything else.
  4. Physics and materials claims always need a source. Heat capacity, phase change, lead migration - none of these are asserted from general knowledge anywhere on this site.
  5. We date every citation and re-check it when the page is reviewed.
  6. We link out generously. An outbound link to a better source than us is a service to the reader, not a leak.

Specifications

Product specifications on this site are read from the maker’s own live listing and dated. We do not carry a figure across from a similar product, we do not estimate, and where a maker publishes nothing our tables print not published rather than leaving a blank that looks like an oversight. Anti-recommendations

We publish them, deliberately. If the honest answer to a page’s question is that the reader should buy something cheaper, something different, or nothing at all, the page says so - and links the alternative, even when the alternative earns us less.

Every roundup on this site carries at least one product we tell you to skip, and every product carries a stated drawback including the ones we rank first. The whiskey stones verdict is the clearest case: it is the most-searched product in our category and our answer is that most people should buy an ice mold instead.

Corrections

We fix errors in place and add a dated note at the foot of the page saying what changed. We do not silently edit a claim we got wrong. If a specification was misread, a source has been updated, or a product has changed, that is worth a reader knowing - particularly if they acted on the earlier version.

Update cadence

  • Prices: refreshed on an automated daily schedule. The date is shown wherever a price renders.
  • Product availability: reviewed monthly.
  • Gift roundups: reviewed in September, before the December season, and quarterly after that.
  • Guides and comparisons: quarterly, or immediately when a source we cite publishes something new.
  • Trust pages: twice yearly, and immediately on any change to how the site is funded.

The “last reviewed” date on a page reflects a real content review. The daily price refresh updates the price stamp, not the article date - dating a page as fresh because a number changed underneath it would make the signal worthless.

Independence

No sponsored placements, no paid inclusion, no gifted products. Affiliate commission is the only revenue this site takes and it never influences selection or ranking - the disclosure page sets out how that is managed.
