What this list is not
It is not the result of testing. We have not chilled, timed, poured or measured anything, and there is no lab behind this site. There are also no star ratings and no review counts anywhere on it, because we have no review corpus of our own and we are not going to borrow somebody else's and present it as a verdict.
What it is instead: the published specifications for each product, compiled side by side, plus an editorial judgment about who each one suits and a stated drawback on every single item including the top pick. How we pick sets the method out in full, including what disqualifies a product.
The one question that narrows this list fast
Does the person you are buying for put ice in their whiskey?
If yes: they want a heavy 11 to 12 oz rocks glass and a large-format ice mold, and they do not want whiskey stones. If no: a tapered nosing glass is the better glassware, and stones become a reasonable small gift. That single fact eliminates about half of this list, and it is worth finding out.

Two things worth knowing before you buy

Do not store spirits long-term in leaded crystal. Graziano and Blum measured lead in port stored in crystal decanters rising from 89 to 3,518 micrograms per liter over four months. Should I buy whiskey itself as a gift?
Bottle preferences are personal and alcohol shipping is restricted in most states, which is why this site covers everything except the whiskey. Giving the accessories and letting them choose the bottle is usually the better outcome.
