Why shape matters here and not elsewhere
Most of what people call taste is smell. The specifications worth reading
Capacity is the one that decides fit for purpose: 6 to 7 oz for a nosing glass, 10 to 12 oz for a rocks glass, and anything much larger is a long-drink glass regardless of what the listing calls it. A lead-free or non-lead statement matters less on a glass than on a decanter - a drink is in the glass for minutes rather than months - but it is still a signal about a maker that publishes specifications at all, which is what we rank on. What is the best glass for whiskey?
It depends on how it is being drunk. A Glencairn-style nosing glass is the standard for tasting because its tapered mouth concentrates aroma. A heavy 11 to 12 oz rocks glass is the standard for drinking, especially over ice. Most serious drinkers own both.
Does the glass really change how whiskey tastes?
